I enjoyed my first black-tie gala over 20 years ago, the New York City Opera Gala featuring a performance of Robert Devereux.  I still have the dress I wore (and it still fits – I wore it to an event before the pandemic).  I had so much fun that I made it a goal to become a gala girl – and I did!

I love a good party for many reasons. I love to meet new people, renew old friendships, find out what’s going on in peoples’ lives, so I love the interaction that a gala offers. But I also love looking my best. It isn’t that my day-to-day life is drab, it’s just that going to a party can take it up anywhere from one to several notches. I’ve learned how to enjoy getting dressed up and going glam. So it’s fun when I’m at an event where others are doing the same. I also love to eat and drink, and parties offer me an opportunity to sample foods and beverages that I might not otherwise ever try. I also love the idea of helping others, and while a gala might not be the most efficient way to raise money for a worthy cause, it often provides a way for people who don’t normally give anything, to give something special. And I love good entertainment, whether it’s music, comedy, or drama. So put on your party shoes, check your make up and hair, and let’s go!

 

I’m a business consultant which means I travel a lot, and because my schedule is pretty flexible, I can show up at events from coast to coast.  I live in Chicagoland, and it’s a great place to go to gala events, and a great place to get on a nonstop flight to just about anywhere for a party.  But because I work with businesses trying to fix problems, I can usually tell when a party is not going to go well.  Or when the dress isn't well made.  Or when the hotel isn't running well.  You get the idea.  That's why I developed the rating system for events, products and services, and if I'm willing to recommend it, it's good.
